Summary

Explore hidden-in-plain-sight masterpieces, off-the-beaten path artist studios, and iconic works of public art in this charmingly illustrated, expertly researched exploration of Paris, from the authors of Art Hiding In New York.

Paris is the city of light, the city of love, and the city of more art than you could possibly explore in a lifetime—and not just in museums. Tucked away on side streets, preserved in former artists' studios, emblazoned on Metro station walls, and situated in some of the world's most famous parks are masterpieces worthy of Louvre, if you know where to look.

In this whimsically illustrated celebration of Parisian art, author and curator Lori Zimmer highlights more than 100 artistic treasures found throughout the world's most creative city. From cabarets and cafes—like the Lapin Agile and Folies Bergere—to the homes of some of the world's most influential artists—including Vincent Van Gogh, Georges Seurat, Pablo Picasso, Rose Valland, and more—there are endless riches to be explored. Each entry is accompanied by a beautiful depiction of the work or location by artist Maria Kransinski, as well as location information, for those eager to visit the sites in person. With stunning details, perfect for displaying on any art lover's shelf, and curated itineraries for dreaming up your next urban exploration, this inspirational book is a must-read for lovers of art, Paris, and, of course, both.

Author Biography

Lori Zimmer is a New York-based curator, writer, and author of The Art of Cardboard: Big Ideas for Creativity, Collaboration, Storytelling, and Reuse (2015), The Art of Spray Paint: Inspirations and Techniques from Masters of Aerosol (2017), and Art Hiding in New York: An Illustrated Guide to the City's Secret Masterpieces (2020, with Maria Krasinski). She founded the popular art history blog Art Nerd New York in 2012, which focused on art history and contemporary art in New York City.

"Liberated" (aka fired) from her Chelsea gallery job in 2009, Zimmer has spent the last ten years crafting her own career in the art world which has included curating, art writing and criticism (both print and online), event planning, PR, artist management, and an array of related gigs that being her own boss has given her the freedom to do. Since 2016, she has worked as an artist liaison on copyright infringement cases for law firm Kushnirsky Gerber PLLC in New York. Zimmer has curated over forty exhibitions and projects in New York, Miami, Nantucket, Philadelphia, Chicago, Hamburg, Germany, Paris, France and the White House under the Obama administration. In 2018 she donated her left kidney to a friend and with new perspective decided to hang up her curatorial hat to focus on writing projects full-time.

Zimmer lives in New York City with her boyfriend Logan Hicks and his son Sailor, but can often be found eating cheese and baguette in Paris with Maria.

Maria Krasinski is an illustrator, designer, and researcher whose work spans cultural diplomacy, arts education, museums, and humanitarian projects. Born in Buffalo, New York, she's worked and wandered across all seven continents, collecting visual inspiration from vintage maps, hand-lettered signs, and color palettes in overlooked corners. Since her big break illustrating the cover of the Herbert Hoover Middle School calendar, Maria has illustrated the book Art Hiding in New York: An Illustrated Guide to the City's Secret Masterpieces (written by Lori Zimmer) and contributed creative work to outlets such as the Chicago Public Library, Lonely Planet, Muhammad Ali Center, and the New York Times.
