This textbook I rented from ecampus contains lectures and the intro from Being and Time that provide a solid foundation of Heidgger's philosophy. I had the honor of being Dr Krell's student at DPU in a class in which we went through this book. Dr Krell is an avid scholar of Heidgger's work and his introductions to each of the lectures in Basic Writings are very helpful.

Summary

Basic Writings is the finest single-volume anthology of the work of Martin Heidegger, widely considered one of the most important modern philosophers. Its selections offer a full range of the influential author's writings-including "The Origin of the Work of Art," the introduction to Being and Time, "What Is Metaphysics'," "Letter on Humanism," "The Question Concerning Technology," "The Way to Language," and "The End of Philosophy." Featuring a foreword by Heidegger scholar Taylor Carman, this essential collection provides readers with a concise introduction to the groundbreaking philosophy of this brilliant and essential thinker.

Author Biography

Martin Heidegger was an influential German philosopher known for his existential and phenomenological explorations of the "question of Being." His best-known textbook, Being and Time, is considered to be one of the most important philosophical works of the 20th century and he has been influential beyond philosophy, in literature, psychology and artificial intelligence. Heidegger remains controversial due to his involvement with Nazism and statements in support of Adolf Hitler.
