The short 30-page introduction summarizes very thoroughly the case for the different authors of the Bible and who they are. The rest of the textbook delineates which of the Penteteuch's passages belong to a each particular author. This allows the ready to quickly identify the source of the passage which is useful when doing other research that references the Penteteuch. R.E. Friedman also suggests that his textbook allows the reader to read each author as an independent work which allows the reader to get better appreciation of the development of the Bible.
