Author Biography

Crombie Taylor (1914-99), who used these photographs in his pioneering restoration of Adler and Sullivan's Auditorium Building interiors, taught architecture, design, and architectural history. He served as Acting Director of the Institute of Design in Chicago and subsequently Dean for Architecture and Fine Arts at the University of Southern California Jeffrey Plank, Assistant Vice President for Research and Public Service at the University of Virginia, writes about literary and architectural history. For more than twenty years, Taylor and Plank collaborated on architectural history projects, including the restoration of Louis Sullivan's Van Allen department store building in Clinton, Iowa
