Summary

It will be a comprehensive approach or guide to SEL. Beginning with an emphasis on SEL as a vital and necessary component in the education and development of children and adolescents, it will be followed by a thorough review of the issues associated with understanding what it is, challenges associated with designing, implementing, and monitoring a school wide approach, and key components that impact sustainable changes. The vision for the book includes chapters that address prevalent issues in the research, how to address the challenges and barriers associated with integrating SEL into everyday aspects of the curriculum and learning routines, and strategies for engaging students through relationships, instructing students in core skills, and facilitating social acceptance among different groups of students.  Other chapters will need to discuss the importance of implementing SEL from a social justice perspective and how it can be incorporated into restorative discipline practices, as well as strategies for teaching social responsibility.
