"Fences" is a wonderful drama that can relate to all people. The levels in the play are great because all of the dramatic characters have a comedic side, which balances the story. He combines a knack for humor, an ability to describe vividly the atmosphere in which the story takes place, and powerful portrayals to concoct a literary masterpiece worthy of being read(and seen) over and over. I am not a avid fan of reading and viewing plays but if there were more like this I'd be in a theater every chance I got. I recommend this textbook to anyone and everyone looking for a good book to just settle down and relax with.

Summary

Drama / 5m, 2f / 1 Set Winner of the New York Drama Critics and Tony Awards as well as the Pulitzer Prize, this sensational drama starred James Earl Jones as Troy Maxson, a former star of the Negro baseball leagues who now works as a garbage man in 1957 Pittsburgh. Excluded as a Negro from the major leagues during his prime, Troy's bitterness takes its toll on his relationships with both his wife and son who now wants his own chance to play.

Like all of the Pittsburgh plays, Fences explores the evolving African-American experience and examines race relations, among other themes.
