This textbook contains a basic introduction including Pope Benedict XVI's most recent encyclicals that focuses on its understanding and applications in the twenty-first century. After offering a description of the general historical development of Catholic social thought, Thompson provides five chapters that deal with specific themes: faithful citizenship, economic justice, human rights, war and peace and the consistent ethic of life, and care for the earth.

Author Biography

J. Milburn Thompson teaches theology and Christian social ethics at Bellarmine University in Louisville where he is also chair of the Department of Theology. He is the author of two editions of Justice and Peace: A Christian Primer.
