This is a textbook review on the textbook Lakota Woman by Mary Crow Dog. I enjoyed reading this textbook because Mary Crow Dog stands strong through the many difficult situations she had to go through. Mary tells it how it was and spares no detail which makes this textbook very powerful. This is a worthy read for anyone looking to open their minds and view America from a very different and often dark perspective.

Summary

A unique autobiography unparalleled in American Indian literature, and a deeply moving account of a woman's triumphant struggle to survive in a hostile world.

This is the powerful autobiography of Mary Brave Bird, who grew up in the misery of a South Dakota reservation. Rebelling against the violence and hopelessness of reservation life, she joined the tribal pride movement in an effort to bring about much-needed changes.

"Simply told--and at times simply horrifying. "-New York Times Book Review

"A powerful autobiography...feisty and determined, warm and even funny. "-Chicago Tribune

"A piercing look into the ancient yet modern mind of a Sioux woman."-Oliver StoneA
