The authors present Mayan archeoastronomy in a very readable and absorbable form. Compare the astronomy/astrology/ myths and stories of the Maya to other cultures of which you are aware, and you will see that this textbook presents a valuable contribution to world archeoastonomy, the book captured my interest, and opened my eyes, to many things most people do not know about the Maya. This is a great read for anyone who has interest in the Maya of yesterday and today.

Maya Cosmos: 5 out of 5 stars based on 1 user reviews.

Summary

In Maya Cosmos: Three Thousand Years on the Shaman's Path, Freidel (Archaeology/Southern Methodist University) presents Mayan archeoastronomy in a very readable and absorbable form.

In a spellbinding tour de force that "will take its place among the best textbooks on the Maya" (USA Today), readers gain an appreciation of the survival of Mayan beliefs and customs as the author are welcomed into present-day Mayan homes and allowed to witness sacred ceremonies. 40 black-and-white photos; 25 line drawings; 16-page full-color photo insert are presented to make the textbook interesting and easy to understand.

Those with a serious interest in Maya myth, symbol, and art, though, can excavate much of value here.
