Summary

Separated from her family at a young age for her education, Hadjame meets her first love, Wassi, and this resulted in her facing many challenges. She loses him to her best friend Xissola. This is not how she expected things to turn out, and her grief and sense of betrayal, led her to focus on her education as a means of escape. Ten years on, the ghosts of her unresolved love for Wassi still pursues her everywhere she goes, but Hadjame will discover that as people grow up their dreams can become lost or changed forever.A story of courage and determination, "No-one Said It'd be easy", is a familiar refrain of Hadjame's father, a young Angolan girl which enables the reader to identify with the various stages of her life, and learn something of African culture.

Excerpts

When she loses her sweetheart Wassi to her best friend Xissola, Hadjame puts herself and all her entire family in a complete distress, until she has determined to put her past behind. Ten years on, she still has the feeling as though it was yesterday when she was a happy, innocent girl with her first love Wassi, best friend Xissola, older brother Kizua, younger sister Chimene, her grandma and parents. She was a born dreamer and believed in real love, and while she was attached to her past with Wassi, Hadjame could not find herself attracted to anybody else, as a result of this, decided to use education as a means of escape. Seeking for a new life after travelling from Angola to USA to further her education in Psychology, she will be reunited with ex-boarding school mates Marta and Bonitao who help her to come face to face with her past again. But can Hadjame overcome her fears, trust and forgive both her ex-boyfriend and ex-best friend again, inspite of everything they had made her life into?
