Summary

Innovative science-based strategies to maximize long-term health by reimagining medicine and redefining aging, from a visionary thinker and renowned longevity physician

To Peter Attia, longevity does not mean merely living longer as our health declines. He believes longevity has two components: The first is how long you live; the second and equally important is how well you live. But, accomplishing true longevity requires a complete change in the way we think about and approach health and wellness. Renowned longevity expert Peter Attia proposes an exciting, new vision of Western medicine that reframes our thinking and our actions. Our current system operates using a method of what Peter calls Medicine 2.0 in which we primarily treat diseases and their symptoms.  Attia’s goal is to shift the mindset we currently have in medicine to begin assessing the risks and customizing treatments for our health issues before they actually occur. He calls this Medicine 3.0, a new way of thinking about chronic diseases, their treatment, and how to maintain long-term health.

Most books and physicians are interested in improving your lifespan (how long you live), but Peter’s focus in simultaneously on improving healthspan (the quality of your cognitive, physical and emotional health). In Outlive, Attia shows readers exactly how to do this through cutting-edge nutritional interventions, exercise physiology, sleep physiology, emotional and mental health strategies, and pharmacology, creating a tangible operating manual for the practice of longevity that will revolutionize the way we approach our health.
