"The Principles of Anatomy and Physiology forms the basis for study of anyone interested in the physical or biological sciences; i.e., pre-med, biology, or any of the allied health services fields such as nursing or physical therapy. This text covers all the bases of human anatomy -- the organ systems from the cellular to the histological to the functional level -- then ties them all together to explain the biological functioning of human beings. It is definitely not an easy read. Some of the mechanisms of different body functions are very complex especially at the cell level. For example, the chapter on the circulatory system describes in detail the uptake of oxygen on a molecular level by the red blood cells for use throughout the body. If you are a serious student this book is a necessity."

Principles of Anatomy and Physiology, 13th Edition: 4 out of 5 stars based on 2 user reviews.

Summary

The thirteenth edition of the phenomenally successful Principles of Anatomy and Physiology continues to set the standard for the discipline. The authors have maintained a superb balance between structure and function and continue to emphasize the correlations between normal physiology and pathophysiology, normal anatomy and pathology, and homeostasis and homeostatic imbalances.

The acclaimed illustration program has been extensively revised. The thirteenth edition is fully integrated with a host of innovative electronic media. No other text and package offers a teaching and learning environment as rich and complete.

Illustrations in every chapter have been revised and updated providing greater clarity and more saturated colors. In particular illustrations of blood vessels, bones, and muscles have been extensively revised. Most tissue photomicrographs have been replaced with exceptionally clear photomicrographs with high magnification blowouts.
