This is 20th century American history from a rather socialistic point of view. Howard Zinn is an incredible thinker and a fairly accessible writer who presumes to write on behalf of the suffering m[censored]. He is clear in his bias as a supporter of oppressed minorities and leftist causes. He is also a staunch pacifist, which is interesting given his status as a WWII military pilot. It's a shame that the younger generation today knows so little of the history of the 20th century in the United States. Indeed, even some older Americans do not know of the social conditions that defined our nation then, or choose to ignore it. This book is a few exceptions that US scholars think in their own independent way, not for the benefit of corporate.
It makes you think over 'What is real justice?' Also, it is wholly readable.. Highly recommended.

Summary

Containing just the Twentieth Century chapters from Zinn's bestselling "A People's History of the United States, " this reissue is brought up-to-date with coverage of events since 2001, analyzing modern political history such as the Gulf War, the post-Cold War "peace dividend, " and the continuing debate over welfare, the Clinton Presidency, and the War on Terrorism.

Highlighting not just the usual terms of presidential administrations and congressional activities, this book provides you with a "bottom-to-top" perspective, giving voice to our nation's minorities and letting the stories of such groups as African Americans, women, Native Americans, and the laborers of all nationalities be told in their own words.

"Howard Zinn's history is a very different one. It's about the folks at the bottom, the people." - Philadelphia Bulletin

"Proffessor Zinn writes with an enthusiasm rarely encountered in the leaden prose of academic history...." - Eric Foner, New York Times Book Review

"Zinn has written a brilliant and moving book from most histories....An excellent antidote to establishment history." - Library Jornal
